Objective: Students will be able to identify the four natural provinces in New Mexico,compare and contrast all four of the provinces, and describe them.
Essential Questions:
1.) What are the four provinces in New Mexico?
2.)How do the provinces differ from one another?
3.) How are the provinces similar to one another?
New Mexico Standards and Benchmarks: Standard # 1 Benchmark #1-A Performance objective 5 – Explain how New Mexicans have adapted to their physical environments to meet their needs over time.
Standard # 2 Benchmark #2-B Performance objective 1-select and explore a region by its distinguishing characteristics.
Standard # 2 Benchmark #2-B Performance objective 3 – Explain why and how regions change using global examples.
Monday
Lesson one- Introduction: The students will be given a map that has New Mexico divided into the The students will try to label the provinces and write on the map anything they may know about the provinces such as climate, plant and animal life, and settlement patterns.
Lesson two: The students will make booklets where they will draw and take notes about each of the provinces. The students will label each province in their booklets
Tuesday
Lesson three: The teacher will go through a PowerPoint that goes over the Rocky Mountain province. The students will be taking notes in the booklets that they made. At the end of the PowerPoint the students will draw something whether an animal, plant, of anything else related to the province in the booklet.
In order to complete this just get a computer paper and fold it into fours( fold the paper hamburger style twice). On one quarter of the page draw a map of New Mexico divide it into the provinces and then label the provinces. In another corner take notes of the climate. In another corner take notes on the settlement patterns. Then on the last quarter of a page draw one plant and one animal from that province. If you choose this option you will need to either scan the finished assignment or take a picture. Either way it needs to be readable.
You also have the option to use Microsoft office to complete the assignment. Do the same sections of paper. We will begin this at the end of class on Friday and it finish it in class on Monday. If you wish to work on it during the weekend that is great, however, you will be provided enough time in class to complete this assignment if you choose to use your time wisely.
